Teacher Magazines
I have a good friend who has just begun to home-school for preschool. She is really excited and often throws in some extra craft ideas. Sometimes I will offer suggestions for crafts or other activities she could do with her child that pertain to a particular topic she is teaching. She is always astounded at how I come up with all of these ideas. I think she just assumes it is a “teacher” thing that I learned in college. However, I was able to offer her a great resource in a magazine to which I used to subscribe when I was teaching elementary school.
Mailbox Magazine is a wonderful resource that is chuck full of ideas for activities, crafts, puppet shows, etc. that you can do with young children. It is designed for teachers but could be a terrific place for parents of preschoolers to look when searching for age-appropriate learning ideas.
Of course Mailbox is not the only teaching magazine out there. Teacher’s Helper and Education magazines are two others that come to mind, and there are many others out there available for review. Some companies may offer a free copy, and you do not have to be a certified teacher to subscribe and reap the benefits of plentiful ideas at your fingertips.
