Back Writing
Once your preschooler is able to identify all of his letters, he is probably ready to move on to writing them. However, it may not always be easy to get your little one to write with a pencil and paper.
First of all, his fine motor skills may not yet be developed enough to steadily maneuver a pencil. (Of course, practicing the task will help to develop these muscles, but it may also be frustrating for your child if he does not ever experience success.)
Instead of the traditional method of writing, try something out of the ordinary. Have your child sit in front of you, and use your index finger to “write” a letter on his back (the bigger the better). Have him try to figure out which letter you have written. You can rewrite the letter as many times as necessary, but if your child is not able to figure it out after a few tries, draw the letter on the floor in front of them with your finger.
When your child has had a few turns to determine the letters, switch roles and allow your child to draw letters on your back.
