Doing Some Things Right

As parents, we have all had times where we know there is an area in our parenting skills that is being neglected.  I have had times where I can feel my patience has been worn particularly thin.  I have also dealt with bouts of constant raised voices.  I often feel as though I should be developing some particular area of my sons’ lives.  “We should be studying Spanish more” and “Our family needs a game night” are examples of thoughts which have flooded my mind.

Sometimes, thoughts of all of these areas that need improvement can overshadow the good things that we are doing for our children.  We may not realize that there are hundreds of things we do on a daily basis that are molding our children.  Of course no one is the perfect parent, but since we all want the best for our children, it is difficult not to be so tough on ourselves.

This morning, I was reminded that I am on the right track with  my parenting.  My older son’s preschool teacher privately spoke to me about how much she enjoyed having Brennen in her class.  She complimented me on his kind and courteous behaviors and pointed out his caring nature towards other children.  Her comments were a wonderful reminder that, even though I typically feel I need to be a better mom, I am definitely doing some things right.
