Bubble Prints
On our last sunny day, my two children, along with several cousins, spent over an hour playing on our deck with bubbles. Actually, it wasn’t just the kids playing. Several adults also joined in on the fun. Of course, several containers of bubble solution were spilled, and whines were heard from some of the children when this happened. But these moans quickly dissipated as someone explained that we could also buy or make more, and the bubble-blowing resumed.
Today, since it is raining, I am planning on showing my children another way to have fun with bubbles while in the house. Using a small amount of paint and a bit of dish soap, we will create a solution to make bubble prints. These bubbles can be savored long after the bubbles have popped!
Cover your work area with a waterproof tablecloth. Begin by mixing (not shaking) approximately 1/4 cup of tempera paint with 3 to 4 teaspoons of dish soap. Use one cup for each color (washed yogurt cups work well). Place a straw in each cup and demonstrate how to carefully blow bubbles until they begin to overflow the cup. Place a piece of white or light-colored papered on top of the bubbles to create a unique bubble print. Repeat with the same color or as many different colors as you would like.
