Tracing Paper
I can remember sitting at the table as a little girl, diligently working in my very special coloring books. These books were special because they were just a bit different than regular coloring books where you simply colored in the manufactured pictures. My favorite books were those that had tracing paper in between each page. Before you colored in a picture, you would first use your pencil to carefully trace the black outlines of the provided pictures. You would then color in your new creation as you would in any other coloring book.
The proud feeling I had as I showed off my drawing to praise-filled adults can easily be retrieved from my memory. Although it was clear I had traced the picture rather than procured it from scratch, I still felt as though I had completed a piece of art as an artist would.
I have searched high and low for these special books for my own children, but alas, I have not been able to locate a single book. Instead, we have moved on to a similar activity. Even though I have not been able to purchase the coloring books with the tracing paper provided, I have bought a packet of tracing paper and simply taped it over a coloring book page. The result is the same, and my children get to feel that same feeling of accomplishment that I did as a little girl. As an adult, I now get to provide the praise that is sought by my budding artists.
