Book Review: The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid of Anything
One of my favorite stories to read to my classes as a teacher is also one of my favorites to read with my own young children. As October draws near, and Halloween is just around the corner, the woods seem darker and simple things can seem scary. That is pretty much what happens in this wonderful story written my Linda Williams.
The story begins with the little old lady taking a walk in the woods. One by one, a precarious group of clothing and one giant pumpkin head begin to follow her down the trail. Each item makes a particular sound which makes for an entertaining way to involve listeners in the telling of this tale. And, although the little old lady isn’t afraid of anything, she seems to be a bit unsure of the clothes that are “chasing” her to her home. In the end, the little old lady is very resourceful and thinks of a way to keep the items from scaring her while still filling their need to be scary.
Enjoy the action with your children. Don’t be afraid to join in as they “wiggle, wiggle” and “shake, shake” from the first to the last page of this fearfully funny story.
