Preschool Book Review: How Do Dinosaurs...Series | The Preschooler

Book Review: “How Do Dinosaurs…” Series

A few months ago, my two boys and I read the story, “How Do Dinosaurs Say Goodnight.”  My children immediately loved the story, and began asking for it to be read each night at bedtime, as well as several times throughout the day.  Although I have to agree that the story is very enjoyable, after about the hundredth reading, it becomes a bit mundane.  I was thankful to discover that the author has written several books in this series.

Jane Yolen and Mark Teague, the illustrator, have teamed up to create an extensive selection of books about dinosaurs doing everyday tasks.  For example, you can read about how dinosaurs go to school, eat their food, play with their friends, learn their colors or count to ten, among several others.  All of the topics are very relatable to young children, and the illustrations are playful and entertaining.

After reading several of the stories in this series with your child, challenge him to write his own story.  Think of an everyday task you might do with your child, and write or illustrate a story about how a dinosaur would do that same activity.  Just imagine what a dinosaur would do if he went to the doctor or took swimming lessons.
