Writing a Christimas List | The Preschooler

Writing Christmas Lists

My older son is REALLY into Christmas.  He has always loved Christmas music and will listen to Bing Crosby year round.  My three-year-old also gets excited about the thought of Santa and the singing of Jingle Bells, but Brennen has a passion for the holiday that have not seen in other children.  So I, being the teacher I am, tried to think of ways to convert this passion into something educational.  My first idea…writing a letter to Santa.

When visiting a popular toy store the other day, I grabbed two copies of their Christmas toy catalog (because I dare not assume that two young boys will share one copy without it ending up in shreds on the living-room floor).  I then told Brennen to circle the toys he really likes and would want on his Christmas list.  Of course, at five years old, nearly every toy in the catalog is circled.

My idea was to then write a letter to Santa, but Brennen came up with his own idea and began writing the names of the toys (copied directly from the catalog) on a blank sheet of paper.  Although this was not the activity I had in mind, he is still getting a lot of practice forming his letters.  Perhaps when he is done, we will use this list as an attachment to a letter.
