Yummy Color Rhyming

Perhaps your child has a difficult time coming up with rhyming words on her own.  Or maybe,  she is a very visual or tactile learner and could use something in front of her to see and touch to jump-start her thoughts.  Motivate your child to rhyme using this delicious color rhyming activity.

To begin, gather a handful of colorful food that your child enjoys.  This could be chocolate candy pieces or brightly colored fruity ring cereal.  Place the food in a bowl.

Next, say a word that rhymes with one of the colors.  This could be a real word, such as “bread”, or a made up word, such as “jorange”.  Your child then finds a piece of food that rhymes with the word you said.  If she is correct, she is allowed to eat the food.  If she is incorrect, the food is returned to the bowl, and she tries again.  Continue playing until the food is gone or until your child no longer expresses interest.

You can also switch roles and allow your child to make up the rhyming words.  You will have to decide, however, who gets to eat the food if you are right!
