Book Review: “LMNO Peas”

I was sitting at the library with my older child helping him complete a writing assignment.  Brennen loves to dawdle, and five-year-olds are not the quickest writers in the world to begin with.  So my mind was wondering onto the shelves around which we were seated.  I was delighted to find a wonderful book to take home to my preschooler.

The book is called LMNO Peas, and the title is what originally grabbed my attention.  When I glanced at the cover, I was amused by the busy illustration of little green vegetables moving over, under, and around the letters in the title.  These animated pictures continue throughout the book.

The author and illustrator, Keith Baker, goes through each letter of the alphabet and depicts the main characters, the peas, of course, as occupying different roles in the community.  On one page, peas may be astronauts and on the next they are builders.  The theme continues throughout the alphabet.

I love that so many different jobs and talents are presented to young learners.  We typically teach about firemen, doctors, policemen, and teachers, but there are so many other important roles in the community.

My son and I also enjoyed the entertaining illustrations.  We could find something new each time we looked through the book.
