Travel Do’s and Don’t’s
After having taken several long trips in the car recently, I have come up with a list of “Travel Do’s and Don’t’s” which I will try to remember for any future travel plans with small children.
- Do: pack small drawing activities that use water for writing.
- Don’t: take along a deck of cards marketed as a travel game, but includes a child-sized dry-erase marker that does not erase from car upholstery.
- Do: carry child-friendly snacks with you at all times. These are a great form of entertainment as well.
- Don’t: include small chocolate candies or gummy snacks that will melt and stick to anything and everything.
- Do: pack a change of clothes for each child with whom you are traveling.
- Don’t: pack these clothes in the bottom of the pile.
- Do: take advantage of spray on sunscreen for your children.
- Don’t: stand downwind while spraying the sunscreen unless you want your legs to be white only in the front.
- Do: include book recordings from the library as part of your children’s travel entertainment. They are both fun and educational.
- Don’t: sign out the unabridged versions or your children may learn more than you wanted them to.
- Do: pack DVDs as a back-up plan to the recorded books.
- Don’t: forget to make sure the discs are actually in the cases, otherwise you may be watching “Happy Feet” on continuous play the entire trip.
I am sure you have your own list of Do’s and Don’t’s so feel free to add to the list. We can all benefit from each other’s “learning” moments.
