Book Review: “Chester”

Earlier this week at the library, I was drawn to a book that had a very overweight cat pictured on the cover.  The title read simply as “Chester”.  As it turns out, Chester is quite a humorous feline!  So much so that we have read his story half a dozen times in the past few days.

In the book, Melanie Watt, the human author, is attempting to tell a story about a little mouse that lives in the country.  Chester, the feline author, however, has a different idea about how the story should be written and uses his read marker to overthrow Melanie’s plot.  Laughter is inevitable as the reader is able to watch a hilarious dual between Melanie and Chester.  The pictures, partially illustrated by Melanie, but with a few changes made by Chester, also add to the humor and are an integral part of the storyline.

I was very excited to find that Chester, with the help of Melanie, has written two other stories, Chester’s Back and Chester’s Masterpiece.  I will be looking for these at the library today!
