Treasure Hunt
Ever since my younger son had a treasure hunt at his pirate-themed birthday party, both of my children have wanted to go on hunts for hidden objects. We even had to have a treasure hunt at my older son’s birthday party even though the “pet” theme he chose didn’t really coincide with the treasure hunt he was requesting. (I ended up making a hunt where the kids had to act like different animals as they went off to find each clue.)
This past week, we also began having treasure hunts inside our own home. The boys grabbed a large, fake crystal from their collection of pirate props and gave it to me to hide. It didn’t have to be hid particularly well, but since it is very little, it is still difficult to find.
The boys would then come to me and ask for clues in order to find the hidden treasure. I would start off with clues that give them a little hint and would get more specific as the game progressed.
Sometimes, they found the jewel immediately, and at other times, I had to give very precise directions. Either way, the game has been a wonderful way for them to use the process of elimination and to think creatively in order to find the treasure. It has also been a great game to play when I am doing something where I am not able to give them my undivided attention.
