“The Three Little Wolves and the Big Bad Pig”

Perhaps it is because everything in the story is completely backwards from the traditional “Three Little Pigs and the Big Bad Wolf” story. Maybe it is the hilarious, over-the-top actions the Big Bad Pig takes in order to “blow” down the houses. Or, it could be because my husband is such a wonderful storyteller complete with silly voices and dramatic facial expressions. I believe it is a combination of all of these along with captivating artwork that complements a side-stitching plot.
The premise of the story, written by Eugene Trivizas and illustrated by Helen Oxenbury, is that the three little wolves are innocent creatures being tormented by an unrelenting evil pig. The pig goes well beyond “blowing” down the houses of the gentle wolves and goes to more drastic measures including a sledgehammer, pneumatic drill, and even dynamite. I won’t give away the surprise ending, but let’s just say it is a “breath of fresh air”.
