Book Review: Ten Little Ladybugs

Oh no!  All of the ladybugs are disappearing!  Are they being eaten by the other creatures in their habitat?  Children will enjoy the surprise ending to this cute little story written by Melanie Gerth and illustrated by Laura Huliska-Beith.  Little ones will also have fun touching each of the raised ladybugs on each page of the story.

In addition to the tactile experience, your child can practice her counting skills, and the rhyming pattern in the story encourages children to finish each page utilizing beginning subtraction skills.  My own two children like to count the number of ladybugs on each page and then shout out the last word of each rhyme as I leave the story hanging in the air.

If your child enjoys this story, you can look for other stories created Melanie Gerth.  She has made contributions to many other tactile books including, Good Night, Sweet Butterflies, Buzz-Buzz, Busy Bees, and Five Little Ducklings.  All of these stories have the same raised, plastic animals that you can find in Ten Little Ladybugs.  This style of presentation has become so popular that you can also find a large number of titles created by other authors, including Steve Haskamp, Margaret Wang, Teresa Imperato, and Jean Marzollo.
